  • Overview

    The Construction Executive’s primary function is to be responsible for the overall construction operation; day to day operation through global vision.  This person will work collaboratively with the Managing Partner (RMI) and other Executive Officers.  Construction knowledge, strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities

    • Devise and implement strategy to seek new business and maintain current and past relationships, providing for repeat business.
    • Develop and lead long-range strategies (2 to 5 years out) and short term plans (quarterly to annual) to achieve the operating plan and profitable growth.
    • Affect profitability through budgeting/planning, construction operations, business development, and sound business strategies that differentiate Roers construction capability.
    • Build value adding relationships and network with professionals, partners and customers; engaging in community events and projects.
    • Stay abreast of market shifts and respond to threats and opportunities.
    • Lead the development and implementation of best management practices to ensure accountability
    • Assist with financial analyses of current operations and future plans including revenue forecasts and burn off projections.
    • Implement major change initiatives.
    • Review and provide input on compensation for all employees in the construction division.
    • Contribute as a member of Roers’ Leadership Team on the collaboration of a multiyear strategy process and an annual planning process.
    • Identify technology needed to assist keeping focus on meeting company goals and driving performance to expected levels.
    • Ensure preparation of annual capital, operating and cash flow budgets by agreed upon times.
    • Monitor deviations from budget and take corrective action to meet established goals.

     

    Leadership Responsibilities:

    • Train, supervise and mentor VP of Operations, Project Managers, Contract Administrators, Estimators and Assistant Project Managers in estimating and project management protocols and processes.
    • Coordinate project management and superintendent assignments with VP of Field Operations and VP of Construction Operations.
    • Quality assurance – develop plans for project closeout monitoring.
    • Advise and/or direct Project Managers and Superintendents on specific project issues, concerns, and decisions in line with management goals.
    • Review prospective bid projects and write proposals with VP of Construction, VP of Field Operations, Managing Partner and Marketing (as appropriate).
    • Perform performance evaluations annually of Vice Presidents, Project Managers, Contract Administrator and Superintendents. Support performance evaluation program for all field employees.  Monitor merit based bonus program.
    • Assist Safety Manager by providing necessary direction and representing the company on OSHA inspections.
    • Ensure Project Managers and subcontractors are in compliance with company safety standards.
    • Collaborate with RMI operational meetings including: Accounting, HR, Marketing, Safety, and IT.
    • Facilitate meetings regarding equipment, staff (weekly), Project Managers (monthly), Superintendent (quarterly).
    • Mediate internal and external conflicts at the appropriate level.
    • Oversee resolution of subcontractor disputes
    • Ensure knowledge of subcontractor risk transfer and execution on decisions with contract administrator.
    • Travel and extended stays as required.

    Qualifications

    4 year degree in Construction Management (or similar),

    5+ years of senior level construction management experience, or

    combination of education and experience may be considered.
